			TITLE Cultural Practices: Tuitui Shampoo AUTHOR Basil Carryer This social inquiry uses the School Journal story 'Tuitui Shampoo' to clarify what is meant by a cultural practice and to provide one example of how people have developed similar cultural practices to solve a common problem - washing hair. The students are then introduced to ways in which other cultures have solved this problem. 			TITLE Touching the Past AUTHOR Basil Carryer This unit focuses on the achievement objective, understanding "how people remember and record the past in different ways". The aim of the unit is to explore why the past is important to people and the many methods used to record and remind themselves of it. Students extend their understanding by comparing the ways that people remember and record the past with those of whole communities.
